The 2022 season finally gets underway this weekend with the Clash. Not only do we have a new car to debut but it’s the first race at the os Angeles Coliseum It’s a double unknown, the Coliseum is a new track created just in the last few months by NASCAR in an attempt to do something unique. The track is modeled after the popular Bowman Gray Stadium in western North Carolina.
Bowman Gray has been known for its close quarters’ fender banging action and that’s what NASCAR officials are aiming to create. It’s a non-points event, and another opportunity for drivers to shake down the next generation car in a competitive setting. Drivers are looking forward to the unknown while having a chance to have some fun as well. Drivers are itching to get a better feel of what the next-gen car has to offer When asked about this weekend’s event, Martin Truex said “I’m really not sure. Thinking about it, I’m not sure I’ve raced a stock car on a track this small, and obviously, we’ve never raced the Next-Gen car, so it’s going to be interesting. The cool thing is it’s going to be a lot of fun to do something fun and there is a lot of excitement around it as well. I think everybody is anxious to get out there, get on track and see what we can do and hopefully, it turns into a fun event for the drivers. I’ll enjoy it, and usually, when I enjoy it, we run well. I’m excited about it, and it should be good.”
It’s an action-packed weekend that kicks off Saturday with practice sessions and heat races and the main event on Sunday.
