Allgaier Wins at Mid-Ohio

Justin Allgaier won Saturday’s Rock-N-Roll Tequila 170 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. This was Allgaier’s third win on the season.

Austin Cindric started on the pole and flexed his muscle quickly by jumping out to a strong lead. Lap 1 wouldn’t be completed under green though as Dylan Murcott ran off track into the tire barriers. The restart came with 16 laps to go in the 20-lap first stage. Cindric dominated the stage but opted to surrender the lead to Allgaier with 3 to go in order to pit. Allgaier stayed out to collect the stage win.

Stage 2 was dominated by Cindric as he led every lap. Ryan Sieg had a mechanical issue halfway through the stage bringing out a caution.

Andy Lally chose not to pit and the road course specialist was able to lead a handful of laps before Cindric took the lead back with 26 to go. Cindric pulled away as he’d done all day until another yellow flew. Tyler Reddick had suffered damage to his right rear tire while avoiding a spinning Allgaier who was bumped by Cole Custer. Reddick’s tire came apart on the next lap leaving debris everywhere.

The restart came with 11 to go but two laps later the yellow was out again which set up a six lap run to the checkers. Cindric again jumped out to the lead but Allgaier, who had pitted under the prior caution, quickly sliced yhrough the top ten and challenged Cindric for the lead. Allgaier ran in his tire tracks for about a lap before making the pass with 4 to go
