I recently had the opportunity to chat with Elliott Sadler from Roush Fenway Racing. Elliott currently drives the No. 1 OneMain Financial Ford Mustang for Roush Fenway Racing in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Sadler began racing in go-karts at the age of seven, and moved up to the Late Model stock car division at the local race track.

Sadler was a six-sport athlete in high school, participating in football, basketball, baseball, cross country, soccer, and golf. He was recruited by over 20 universities to play college basketball and ended up accepting a basketball scholarship from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. However, he injured his knee before his freshman season and needed two surgeries, eventually quitting school to focus on racing. (1)

6 Questions with Elliott Sadler:

Michelle H.: If you could relive any moment in your life, what would it be?

Elliott Sadler: I’m pretty happy living in the present. I’ve been able to accomplish a lot inside of a racecar and out so I’m more focused on going forward than I am going back… I always say there’s a reason the windshield is way bigger than the rearview mirror. We are supposed to look forward.

MH: What is your favorite track to run?

Elliott: I love Bristol. Nowhere else in the world compares to that track and that environment.

MH: Out of the up and coming newer drivers, who do you see having a promising future in racing?

Elliott: Ryan just won Daytona. Buescher has proven he can drive racecars and we all saw Bubba win races last year in trucks. I feel like RFR has a lot of young talent coming up and they are all capable of winning races.

MH: What is your favorite vacation destination?

Elliott: Nags Head, NC or Atlantis in the Bahamas.

MH: If you could delete a bad moment in your history, what would it be?

Elliott: I don’t like flying so all of the hours I’ve spent on airplanes.

MH: Who was your favorite driver growing up and have you met and/or raced against him?

Elliott: I grew up a huge Cale Yarborough fan and Dale Earnhardt fan. I’ve met them both and obviously got to race against Dale and got to know him on a personal level.
