Allgaier Edges Sadler in Epic Dover Battle

Justin Allgaier won Saturday’s OneMain Financial 200 at Dover International Speedway. His first win of the season and sixth of his career in the Xfinity series. The entire race seemed to be focused on the cars from JR Motorsports as Allgaier and teammate Elliott Sadler proved to be the class of the field.

Sadler made the first pass for the lead in the race 23 laps into stage 1 when he passed pole sitter Brandon Jones. Sadler would win the stage, his third on the season.

At the other end of the field was the JR Motorsports #9 car of Tyler Reddick. He never posted a qualifying lap earlier in the morning due to his car not getting through inspection in time. Despite starting in the back Reddick found his way into the top 10 within 20 laps.

Reddick would win the race off pit road following stage 1 and restarted alongside Matt Tifft who had stayed out. Fresh tires would prevail and Reddick would claim the lead rather quickly. The 9 enjoyed the lead for a short time but Allgaier’s #7 ran him down and on lap 77 for his first lead of the day. He would go on to win the stage.

Stage 3 would start with Jones back out front but Sadler would get back to the lead with 96 laps to go. Allgaier wasn’t far behind and he slid by his teammate just six laps later. The final stretch of the race saw a rash of cautions but restart after restart Allgaier held his lead.

The final green flag flew with 28 laps to go following a wreck involving Ty Majeski and Dylan Lupton. Allgaier got a solid jump on the restart but it didn’t take long for Sadler to get to his bumper. The two teammates remained in close quarter lap after lap but Sadler couldn’t complete the pass. Finally as they made their way through turns 3 and 4 on the last lap Sadler made a last ditch effort and drove in deep. He got to Allgaier’s door and made contact. Both slid towards the outside wall exiting for but the 7 kept his edge and won the race to the line.

In addition to the race victory Allgaier also won the $100,000 Xfinity Dash4Cash bonus, something Sadler had won the past two weeks.
