Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick:

Jeff: “Been thinking about for years…Wanted to do it on my own terms if possible…I decided halfway through our last season…I said to Rick, this is it boss…I’m looking forward to family time and the next chapter in life working with Hendrick motorsports and other chapters.”

Rick: “It will be awkward and strange not having Jeff in the 24 car. I thank him for all he’s done, all the records he’s broken…him helping the company grow. He’s a tremendous asset outside the car. It’s bittersweet. He’s meant so much to me. Jeff’s broke a lot of barriers helping others get into the sport.”

MEDIA:

Jeff Gluck: Rick…What about Chase Elliott? “We’re focusing on Jeff right now…will look later on down the line.”

Jim Utter: Jeff…numerous changes in NASCAR – during your career, best NASCAR accomplishment? “Mid to late 90’s – going to Indy & Texas, expanding all over the country… Broadcasting included. Now the Chase format, hahaha…Brian France told me about it in Key West…I told him it was not a very good idea. But I love it now!”

Marty Smith: Jeff…how do you want to be remembered? “How passionate I am about what I do…I LOVE driving racecars. I didn’t know I would get to this level…a dream come true.”

Bob Pockrass: Jeff…Retirement not mentioned. Why? “Retirement means going off to a beach somewhere, drink coffee, pet the dog…that’s not me…I’ll be working a REAL job. I’ll leave myself open to get back into a car…Nationwide, Rolex, whatever, etc…might not be any of those things, but I don’t PLAN on doing those things, but…I’m excited about that, I really am.”

Tom Jensen: Jeff…What are you most proud of in your career? “I feel like I have always done my best, gave my best to the team…not just me…as a group, as well as the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation which will continue on. I want to spend more time with it.”
